The Swedish company Polestar, which is owned by the Chinese holding Geely, presented the production version of the electric fastback Polestar 5 at the Munich Motor Show.

Surprisingly and commendably, there is nothing Geely in the Polestar 5 – the platform and key components for this model were developed independently by the British branch of Polestar.
Polestar 5

The Polestar 5 is based on its own aluminum platform PPA (Polestar Performance Architecture) with an 800-volt electric architecture, it is in no way connected with the multifaceted SEA platform of the Geely holding and is inspired by the best British sports cars. The design makes extensive use of extruded elements and adhesive joints, but the winged metal did not give the flagship of the Swedish brand any noticeable weight savings: the minimum curb weight is 2462 kg! The PPA platform will also be used to build the Polestar 6 coupe-cabriolet .

The overall length of the Polestar 5 is 5087 mm, the width is 2015 mm, the height is 1419-1425 mm depending on the modification, the wheelbase is 3054 mm.
Staying true to the original concept, the Polestar 5 features distinctive dual-blade headlights equipped with Pixel LED technology. The sleek, sculpted body is complemented by flush door handles, frameless windows, and a gracefully sloping roofline that finishes in a Kamm-style rear. Notably, the design does away with a conventional rear window, adding to the car’s striking and unconventional appearance

The Polestar 5 is a five-meter streamlined sedan that is intended to compete with the Porsche Taycan or Tesla Model S. Its height is a modest 1420 mm by electric vehicle standards, and its sophisticated aerodynamics have made it possible to do without additional spoilers: the Cd coefficient is 0.24. The wheels can have a diameter of 20 or 22 inches.

In the cabin, the digital instrument panel is placed on the steering column, there is also a projection on the windshield. The electric car received a 14.5-inch portrait display and a multimedia system based on Google. The car has a 365-liter rear and 62-liter front trunk.
Recaro sports seats have electric drive, heating, ventilation and massage. The Polestar 5 package also includes a panoramic roof, four-zone climate control, all-round cameras, 10-speaker acoustics and a semi-autonomous driving system.

There are two modifications to choose from, but both have dual-motor all-wheel drive, and the rear axle always has a PX2 module of our own design, which includes a solid electric motor (612 hp, 660 Nm), a two-stage gearbox and two onboard clutches: they allow you to control the thrust vector or simultaneously disengage to save electricity. This means that during cruising, the Polestar 5 operates as a front-wheel-drive vehicle to enhance efficiency.

The basic Dual Motor version has a peak of 748 hp and 812 Nm, and accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The Polestar 5 Performance has 884 hp and 1015 Nm, and accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Plus, this version has adaptive shock absorbers instead of the basic passive ones. The maximum speed of both modifications is 250 km/h.

The traction battery is also the same for both versions – 800-volt lithium-ion with a capacity of 112 kWh (of which 106 kWh are available). The batteries are supplied by SK On. The maximum DC charging power is 350 kW, and the driving range on a single charge is 670 km for the Dual Motor version and 565 km for the Performance version (according to the WLTP cycle).

Polestar 5 sedans are already available for order in Europe. The base version costs 120 thousand euros, and the Performance modification costs 143 thousand euros. But the shipment of commercial cars of Chinese production will begin only next year.
