Toyota has globally unveiled its new “2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV” for the first time.
Suzuki and Toyota have several ongoing joint projects, one of which led to the creation of compact all-electric crossovers. Suzuki recently unveiled its version, the e-Vitara SUV, at the start of last month. Now, it’s Toyota’s turn to showcase its counterpart: the Urban Cruiser, which is being positioned as a global model.
The Urban Cruiser is a production version of the “Urban SUV Concept,” which was introduced in Europe in November 2023. This BEV (battery electric vehicle) combines a spacious interior and a bold SUV design, all while maintaining a compact body size.
The Urban Cruiser features a body size of 4285mm in length, 1800mm in width, and 1640mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2700mm.
2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Exterior
The Toyota Urban Cruiser concept retains several design elements, including the shape of the headlights and vertical side air intakes in the lower part of the front bumper. The roof, front, and central pillars can be painted either black or in the body color. The model features LED daytime running lights, traditional side mirrors with turn signal repeaters, a robust body kit along the perimeter, and a small spoiler on the upper part of the trunk door. The rear lights are designed as a single large element extending from one rear wing to the other. The eco-friendly SUV comes equipped with 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The interiors of the 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser and its counterpart are similar, with the main difference being the level of finishing materials, with Toyota featuring more black gloss accents. The front panel includes instrument screens (10.25 inches) and a media system display (10.1 inches). The two-level central tunnel is equipped with USB ports, cup holders, and a compact transmission selector. Available options include ambient lighting, surround-view cameras, a JBL audio system, a panoramic roof, and a range of electronic driver assistance features.
The designers take particular pride in the enhanced interior flexibility of the Toyota Urban Cruiser. The rear seat is mounted on skids, allowing it to be adjusted, and its backrest folds in a 40:20:40 ratio. When the rear seat is moved to its maximum position, the space in the back row is said to be comparable to that of D-class crossovers.
Powertrain
The entry-level version of the Urban Cruiser comes with a single electric motor (144 hp, 189 Nm) on the front axle, paired with a 49 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate traction battery. The next variant is a front-wheel-drive model featuring a more powerful motor (174 hp, 189 Nm) and a larger 61 kWh battery. At the top of the range is an all-wheel-drive version, equipped with the same 61 kWh battery but an additional 65 hp electric motor on the rear axle. The total output of this dual-motor system is 184 hp and 300 Nm. In essence, the specifications are identical to those of the electric Vitara.
The public debut of the electric SUV Toyota Urban Cruiser will take place at the Brussels Motor Show, scheduled to run from January 10 to 19, 2025.
