New 2025 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire PHEV Models Launched in Japan

Toyota Motor Corporation is taking significant steps toward achieving carbon neutrality with the introduction of the 2025 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire PHEV,

Japan’s first plug-in hybrid minivan is set to hit the Japanese market on January 31, 2025, offering an improved driving experience. Along with the PHEV, both the hybrid and internal combustion engine versions will also receive updates.

The 2025 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, which underwent a generational change in the summer of 2023, are built on a completely redesigned platform that enhances both driving performance and comfort. These improvements make the vehicles ideal for a diverse range of customers, from families to VIPs. The plug-in hybrid minivan models stand out with upgraded noise insulation, ensuring a quieter ride for both the driver and all passengers, including those in the back seat.

2025 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire PHEV

The 2025 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire PHEV is equipped with a 2.5-liter engine that delivers a total power output of 225 kW. It is capable of driving up to 73-KM in pure electric mode on a full charge. The vehicle features a large-capacity lithium-ion battery installed beneath the floor in the center, allowing for maximized interior cabin space. This setup also lowers the car’s center of gravity by 35 millimeters compared to the HEV model, enhancing stability and further reducing vibrations.

The new plug-in hybrid models of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire can operate the air conditioner using only electric power, eliminating the need to start the internal combustion engine. Additionally, like other Toyota PHEV vehicles, these models feature a My Room mode, which allows passengers to use the air conditioner and enjoy entertainment programs inside the cabin while the battery is charging.

The 2025 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire PHEV model comes with both a standard charging function and a quick charging option, which can charge the battery to 80% in approximately 38 minutes—a significant time-saving compared to standard charging with a 200V cable. It also features a maximum external power supply function of 1,500W (AC 100V) as standard. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a Vehicle to Home (V2H) system, allowing it to use power from its backup battery to supply electricity to your home during an emergency.

The Toyota Alphard is priced starting at 5,100,000 yen for the base eight-seat X trim, featuring a 2.5-liter hybrid engine and front-wheel drive. Prices go up to 10,650,000 yen for the top-tier six-seat plug-in hybrid Executive Lounge model with all-wheel drive. The gasoline-only version, equipped with a 2.5-liter 2AR-FE engine and a CVT, is priced between 5,550,000 and 5,748,000 yen.

The Toyota Vellfire is priced starting at 6,700,000 yen for the basic front-wheel drive Z Premier model, featuring a 2.4-liter turbo engine (T24A-FTS), an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a seven-seat interior. The highest-priced Executive Lounge trim, available for 10,850,000 yen, comes with a six-seat interior, a plug-in hybrid system based on a 2.5-liter engine, and all-wheel drive.
