French automaker Renault has launched a new family of subcompact crossovers, the 2025 Renault 4 E-Tech, expanding its lineup. This model’s name and exterior design pay tribute to the legendary “people’s car,” the Renault 4, which Renault manufactured from 1961 to 1994.
Renault built the new Renault 4 on the AmpR Small platform, formerly known as CMF-B EV. The designers also used this platform for the new-generation Renault 5 hatchback and its sporty variant, the Alpine A290.
The new 2025 Renault 4 E-tech measures 4,140 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm and a ground clearance of 181 mm. Standard wheels are 18 inches in size. The minimum curb weight is 1,410 kg, and it can tow a trailer with a maximum permissible weight of 750 kg.
Exterior
The front grille of the new Renault 4 immediately draws attention, inspired by the original Renault 4. Crafted from a single 1.45-meter-long piece, it features a continuous illuminated surround that elegantly frames the Renault logo at its center—a distinctive design in the industry.
At the rear, designers have modernized the iconic three-part lights with sleek lines and a unique LED signature, paying tribute to the classic model.
These design elements include bonnet lines that flow to the bottom of the grille, the shape of the rear quarter window, and three sculpted lines on the doors that recall the original’s plastic protectors. Additionally, the roof boasts unique shapes, now fitted with roof bars.
The interior of the new Renault 4 largely carries over from the Renault 5 hatchback, with minimal changes. The cabin features abundant fabric trim on the doors and dashboard. In front of the driver are instrument screens that range from 7.0 to 10.1 inches, along with a 10.1-inch media system. The transmission selector is positioned on the steering column, while the central tunnel houses a wireless charging pad. The crossover offers more space than its hatchback counterpart, with the luggage compartment expanded from 326 to 420 liters, which includes a deep 35-liter storage area beneath the floor.
Powertrain
All 2025 Renault 4 E-Tech models slated for production will feature front-wheel drive. The entry-level version will come with a 120 hp motor producing 225 Nm of torque, paired with a 40-kilowatt battery that offers a range of approximately 300 kilometers. The higher-end model will be equipped with a 150 hp motor generating 245 Nm of torque and a 52 kWh battery, extending the range to 400 kilometers on a single charge. So far, only the performance specifications for the higher-end version have been announced: it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 150 km/h.
To enhance the all-terrain capabilities of the 2025 Renault 4 E-Tech, the company has introduced new operating modes for the Extended Grip traction control system as an optional feature. The first mode, called Snow, is designed for slippery conditions, limiting traction on the drive wheels at speeds up to 50 km/h. The second mode, named All-Terrain, increases traction for driving at speeds up to 80 km/h.
Sales of the Renault 4 E-Tech in the European Union are set to begin in 2025.
