Volkswagen, the German automaker, has unveiled its latest crossover, the 2025 Volkswagen Tera. This compact city model features a sleek design and offers an attractive price point.

2025 Volkswagen Tera

The 2025 Volkswagen Tera was unveiled during Brazil’s most significant celebration, the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, which is currently underway. While the car was revealed to the public in a live presentation, the focus was more on the event itself, leaving limited details about its technical specifications available at this time.

The VW Tera is built on the MQB-A0 platform, the same foundation used for the Nivus, T-Cross, and Polo hatchback models.

The Tera’s exterior boasts bold features, including aggressive bumpers, muscular sides, and an unpainted plastic body kit that runs around the perimeter of the vehicle. The headlights and taillights are enhanced with LED “strokes,” and a black trim connects the lights, though it lacks any illuminated elements. The new model rides on 17-inch wheels. A fun “Easter egg” can be found on the rear window, where silhouettes of the VW Beetle, Gol, and Tera are displayed. According to the brand’s marketers, this design element highlights the SUV’s “popular” status.

The interior of the Tera follows the same design language as other modern Volkswagens. The top-tier version comes with virtual instruments, single-zone climate control with a touch-based remote, ambient contour lighting, and the signature Brazilian Volkswagen Play Connect media system featuring a 10-inch screen. Additionally, a suite of electronic driver assistance features is also included.

The Tera model is built on the front-wheel-drive MQB-A0 platform. It features a 1.0 TSI three-cylinder turbo engine producing 116 horsepower, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The base version of the Tera SUV is expected to come with a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, delivering a maximum output of 84 horsepower, coupled with a manual transmission. As is typical in Brazil, the engines will likely run on a mix of gasoline and ethanol. In all variants, the vehicle is expected to feature front-wheel drive.
Volkswagen Tera SUVs will be produced at the Taubaté plant, where the more basic Polo Track hatchbacks are also manufactured. Production is set to begin in May in Brazil.
