The new generation 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is ready to enter the European market, but the local range will be extremely scarce. Only a “short” version (4910 mm) with two rows of seats is offered here, the world premiere of which took place last fall, and only in the form of a rechargeable hybrid. Europeans will not get purely gasoline versions, and there are no diesel modifications in the new range at all.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is equipped with a two-liter gasoline turbo four (274 hp) with direct fuel injection and a two-way turbocharger. Responsible for electrification are a starter-generator with a belt drive and a full-fledged traction electric motor installed in an eight-speed “automatic” instead of a torque converter. The peak return of the system is 380 hp. and 637 Nm.
The 17 kWh traction battery is installed under the floor and operates at 400 volts and can be charged from a wall socket. The hybrid can run on pure electric traction: a separate clutch disconnects the gasoline engine from the electric motor, and in this mode, the Grand Cherokee can travel up to 51 km on the European cycle.
Cars for the Old World will have the most advanced Quadra-Drive II transmission with a reduction gear and rear differential lock, as well as Quadra-Lift air suspension. The Selec-Terrain electronic system includes Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow and Mud/Sand off-road modes.
So far, only cars from the welcome Exclusive Launch Edition series are available for order with a full range of options, including 21-inch wheels, leather interior and a display in front of the passenger. More simple equipment will be added in April. However, even the price of the welcome version has not yet been announced. For example, in the US, a new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe costs at least $58,000. In Russia, new-generation cars are expected in September, and an extended Grand Cherokee L will appear a little later.
